A cactus is a great houseplant that has everyone hooked with its striking features. The best part about nurturing them is that they are comfortable with the home environment. Unlike most plants, they require a little amount of water and can even survive the arid conditions. Before you start growing one, get yourself acquainted with the different types of Cacti that exist around you.

Golden Barrel Cactus

Also known as mother-in-law’s cushion and Echinocactus Grusonii, a Golden Barrel Cactus is a huge, round cactus that is covered with curved yellow spines. It is a statement-making houseplant that is sun-loving and can survive infrequent watering.

Bunny Ear Cactus

Staying true to its name, Bunny Ear Cactus is a popular choice given its cute shape. The plant features huge green pads that resemble a bunny’s ears. Its overall appearance is quite pleasing and beautiful. Though it doesn’t have spines like a traditional cactus, it doesn’t mean you can cuddle it as you please. It has glochids that can cause irritation in case they penetrate through your skin. Therefore, you have to be watchful when growing them.

Totem Pole Cactus

It is a slow-growing cactus that has tall, slim and columnar stems, branching from the base. It can grow up to twelve feet high. The plant has a unique appearance with its uneven ribs, knob like swellings along the stems and a few spines. The cactus features pink blooms which are rarely seen. Also, while they thrive in light, they can tolerate partial sunlight as well.

Hoya Heart Cactus

Nicknamed ‘Sweetheart plant’, the Hoya Heart cactus is a tropical heart-shaped succulent that is easy to care for. They enjoy full sunlight and don’t need that much water. This low-maintenance type of Cactus is slow-growing, relatively drought-tolerant and can tolerate even low light.

Star Cactus

Sand dollar cactus or sea urchin cactus, a Star cactus has a round body, split into eight slices. The body is covered with white hairs and little white dots. During the Spring season, it blooms as a yellow flower. Altogether, it’s an ideal houseplant.

Saguaro Cactus

Last but not least on our list is the Saguaro Cactus plant. Though this plant is slow-growing, it can reach a height of up to 60 feet. Since this plant requires plenty of sunlight to thrive, make sure you place them in a spot that receives direct sunlight if you place them indoors.
